Painting Kits That Don't Require a Trip to the Craft Store

The biggest barrier to painting with kids isn't the mess - it's the setup. Finding paints, filling cups, covering the table, locating a brush that isn't crusty from last time. Our painting kits skip all of that. The watercolor palette is printed into the top of each card or page. A brush is included. You add a cup of water and your kid is painting.

Two Painting Formats and How They Differ

Watercolor painting kits include cards with a pre-printed illustration and a watercolor palette built into the top edge. Your kid dips the brush in water, activates the palette, and paints over the illustration. The result is a watercolor-finished card your child can tear out (perforated edges) and display or give as a gift.

Water-reveal kits work differently - your kid paints with water only (no pigment), and hidden illustrations appear as the water activates the page. Similar to how our bath books work, but on a page format with a brush. Less mess, more magic-trick effect.

How Painting Kits Compare to Other Creative Formats

Painting kits produce the most "finished art" result of any creative format we make. Activity books are more varied (stickers, mazes, drawing prompts) but the output is colored-in pages. Coloring rolls are longer-duration and open-ended but the result is crayoned illustration.

Painting gives your kid something that looks like real art on a fridge or in a frame. The tradeoff is mess - water and a brush are involved. A covered table or newspaper underneath handles it.

For the wider art and education collection, the Andy Warhol painting kit uses Warhol compositions as the base artwork. For ages 4-5, painting kits sit alongside puzzles, games, and creative kits on the broader age page.
